From Apprentice to Engineer: Liam Jones’ Journey of Growth

Posted On : Dienstag 25th November

At KnitMesh Technologies, we are always proud to see our people grow in their careers. Today, we are pleased to share some great news about one of our team members.

Liam Jones joined KnitMesh Technologies in July 2021 as an Engineering Apprentice. Since then, he has worked hard to build his skills and experience. This year, he achieved a major milestone by completing his Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Technology/Engineering.

This qualification reflects Liam’s dedication, effort, and determination to keep improving. As a result of his progress, Liam has now moved into a new role as a Shift Maintenance Engineer, where he continues to support our operations and develop his engineering abilities.

To mark this achievement, we spent some time with Liam to talk about his journey, what motivated him, and what he is looking forward to next.

Q&A With Liam Jones

Q: Why did you choose to pursue your HNC in Mechanical Technology/Engineering?

I wanted to progress in my career and challenge myself. I was keen to push my capabilities and see how far I could go.

Q: How does it feel now that you’ve completed your qualification?

It’s a huge relief, but also a great sense of accomplishment. I’m really proud of myself and how far I’ve come.

Q: How has working at KnitMesh Technologies supported you during your studies?

KnitMesh Technologies has given me valuable hands-on experience, which helped link real-life engineering situations with what I was learning in the classroom. Being able to apply engineering principles at work made a massive difference to my understanding.

Q: Is there anyone at KnitMesh Technologies who especially inspired or encouraged you?

Yes, Aled Williams (Production Engineering Team Leader) really encouraged and pushed me to take on my HNC. He supported me throughout and was always there to help if I was struggling. Craig Jones (Engineering Manager) also encouraged me, and knowing that both he and Aled believed I could do it was really reassuring. The wider engineering team has also been incredibly supportive.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying while working?

Try to create a balance between work and studying. Setting specific days in the week to focus on assignments and revision really helps. Even dedicating two hours every other day can make a big difference.

Q: What’s next for you?

I’d like to expand my knowledge in electrical engineering. Becoming more multi-skilled will make me a stronger engineer overall. Outside of work, I’m hoping to improve my golf!

Q: What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I struggled with GCSE maths, but I was determined to become an engineer. Years of persistence and dedication have finally paid off – I’ve now completed one of the highest levels of engineering education.

Also… I’m a massive Arsenal fan!

Liam’s success is a great reminder of what continuous learning and development can lead to. His dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have been clear from the very beginning, and as Craig Jones, Engineering Manager, shared: “We are incredibly proud of Liam and everything he has achieved. Completing his HNC is a brilliant accomplishment and well deserved.”

From everyone at KnitMesh Technologies, well done, Liam! We are proud to have you on the team and we look forward to supporting your future growth.
