Post-knit processing of knitted wire mesh is an important step in transforming the knitted material into the final product required by the customer.

There are a variety of post-knitting processes which can be used depending upon the final form, structure, property and design requirements. These include the methods outlined below. Click on the link or image for more detailed process information.

mesh layering

Coiling, Folding & Layering

Coiling is a method for packing milled mesh in flat spirals, suitable for shipping to the end user.

Folding and Layering are techniques used for building up pads of knitted mesh such as might be used in kitchen extraction units or flashback guards.

mesh crimping

Crimping

Mesh crimping is performed by passing a continous sock of knitted mesh between crimp rollers.

The resulting crimp depth makes the mesh particularly suited to anti-vibration products.

mesh pressing

Pressing

To obtain high-precision mesh rings and gaskets, knitted mesh can be die-pressed into the required form.

Knitted mesh is placed in a steel die and compressed until it reaches the required size and density.

mesh spiralling and milling

Spiralling & Milling

Pressing produces single components, but sometimes the requirement is for a continuous length of compressed mesh.

This is achieved by placing spiralled mesh inside a separate mesh sleve, then drawing through a rolling mill to compress to the required cross-section and density.

CleaningKnitMesh Technologies is keenly aware of the need some customers have for their products to be ‚clean‘ prior to use.

Raw materials often come in coated with oil to prevent corrosion, and knitting and post-knit processing can also introduce contaminants to products. Therefore KnitMesh have developed a series of cleaning processes which can be used if cleanliness is a specific customer requirement.

Inspection

KnitMesh has manual and automated inspection systems in place for when customer or application specifications demand physical continuity and consistency of knitted wire mesh rolls and/or components.
